Students and staff at Carroll Hills Family and Children's Program Center participate in many fundraisers during the school year. In the past few years, the focus of these fundraisers has been the building of a handicapped accessible playground. Through collecting Boxtops for Education from various food products, recycling cell phones and ink cartridges, selling cookbooks, candles, and jewelry, having a silent auction, receiving a couple grants, funds have thus far provided for 3 beautiful and accessible gazebos, a walking/bike path, a toss and score, 3 interactive panels, fencing around the playground area, a wooden train with five cars that may be climbed upon and fully interacted with, and a storage building for the many tricycles and pedal cars we've acquired through our Campbell's Labels for Education program.
In addition, the already existing large swing set has moved to another site on the playground and 2 new adapted swings were added that allows students with physical disabilities to swing alongside their classmates. These swings were purchased thanks to the efforts of Carroll Hills School classroom assistant, Cheryl Rohr. Cheryl holds two LifeShare Blood Drives each school year (Fall and Spring). For every 25 people who donate, the school receives a $500 grant from LifeShare.
As further fundraisers are held and grants are received, gross motor activities will be added to the playground area such as an art area, sand and water play area, and a balance beam. Eventually, a covered bridge will be built over the bike path with play gas pumps on the side.
